About
Hello and welcome!
Thanks for stopping by.
My name is Elaine Johnston, Certified International Tour Manager and owner of The Glade Explorers Travel. Thank you for taking the time to stop by for a visit…
January, 2009 marks the 10th Anniversary of The Glade Explorers Travel located in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. For those of you not familiar with our neck of the woods, Fairfield Glade is a suburb of the city of Crossville which is known as “The Golf Capital of Tennessee.” We’re in East Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau right along Interstate 40 – between Knoxville and Nashville – a little closer to Knoxville than Nashville. We’re able to use either airport for our travels…
Crossville is a melting pot of retirees from all parts of the United States and Canada who are now able to fulfill one of their lifelong dreams – to travel and explore. Thus, our name – The Glade Explorers Travel! “We are dedicated to making everyone’s travel dreams come true”, especially yours!
A travel agent…Now-a-days we like to call ourselves “travel consultants.” Travel agent, travel counsellor, travel consultant – whatever – I’ve been matching folks to destinations ’round the world since 1972.
WOW! 39 years! Those were “the good old days” when writing a simple airline ticket for someone going from New York to London made you a hero because folks didn’t have to schlep all the way to the airport or major city ticket office to get a ticket. Your travel agency was right there somewhere in town near their local bank, post office or corner grocery store. How easy was that?
Life for a “mom & pop” store front travel agency was pretty good for a long time – at least 50 years or so, until the onset of the Internet.
The BIG INTERNET giants have tried their best to sway travelers to their way of thinking. I must admit, they have been successful – to a point. That being said, there is nothing like the “personal touch” given by a travel agent.
According to a recent report by PhoCusWright Inc., the leading research company in the travel industry, “home-based” travel agents represent 28 percent of all agents. (I work from home…) There are 31,000 legitimate agents (not hobbyists) that are home-based. Additionally, as a group – this is the part that blows my mind – we sell more than $9.7 billion a year in travel! Not bad for being able to work from home – wherever that may be – in your pajamas and slippers if that’s what strikes your fancy…(my personal choice is sweats and a comfy tee shirt…) and make as much or as little money as you want.
Find something you love to do then find a way
to make money at it!
You might say I’m the perfect example of finding something you love to do and then finding a way to make money at it. I’ve done just that for many years…
I invite you to explore my blog as it grows. I hope you’ll find something to satisfy your wanderlust…Globetrotting your way is the way to go!
Thanks for your time, and have a great day…

I hope to blog again when I get home.
Love ya! Don and Regina
OH….to have “dear friends” such as you makes life good! So happy to hear from you!
You’ve been on my mind lately – so what else is new?!! Could it be that I look around this house and see that I need some touch-up painting done. Tomorrow is Sunday. Know anyone who could give a hand?
Granddaughters are sooooooooo up with life these days. Remember how we would talk on the phone for hours during our 30′s about things they know today as teens? Oh – and those phone bills – UGH!
I’m about to revamp this blog, so stayed tuned. It’s not exactly what I want…it will take awhile as I do everything by the seat of my pants. Learning a lot in my old age. School is never out!
Keep in touch now that you know what you’re doing…love to “y’all!”
